In 1994, Caressa Bell received orders to deploy to Saudi Arabia with one week’s notice. She was a young soldier, a single mother, and her son was only four months old.

 

There was no perfect plan, no certainty, and no guarantee of what would come next. There was only a decision: move forward anyway.

That moment became the foundation of everything that followed.

What emerged was more than ten years of military leadership, more than twenty years of corporate leadership, and more than $30 billion in enterprise portfolio oversight. It became a way of operating a belief that courage is not something you wait to feel. It is something you build through decisions, discipline, and action, especially when the path ahead is unclear.

Over the next three decades, that belief carried her from military service to executive leadership, where she guided some of the largest and most complex transformation initiatives in healthcare. Leading through uncertainty, high stakes, and constant change reinforced a lesson she would return to again and again: leadership is not about position. It is about the ability to move forward when others hesitate.
